Ms. Tomlinson has been teaching French for 5 years. Prior to that, she taught math in the school district for 7 years. She received her teaching certificate from California State College, Northridge, an MS in Economics from Lehigh University, and a BS in Economics and math from Hofstra University.
She chose teaching as a second career after working at the Federal Reserve Bank on Wall Street and for a French Brokerage firm in Paris, France. She always enjoyed teaching and was a TA in Economics for first year students while working towards her masters. She also taught Business classes in English at the University of Paris, II. When she moved back to the states, she decided to get her certificate and teach full time as a second career. She enjosy finding ways to make learning meaningful and develop effective teaching strategies. An interesting fact about Ms. Tomlinson is that she has travelled a lot and is great at finding reasonably priced vacations (or even practically free). When she was younger she got to spend summers in Wales (running a camp for underprivileged youths), in Copenhagen, Denmark (rebuilding a peace center), and in Turkey (travelling and staying at various homes in Ankara, Istanbul and Marmara).
Ms. Tomlinson's favorite thing about teaching is the look on a student’s face when they have grasped a concept. It's called the “aha!” moment.
Mrs. Tomlinson’s piece of advice for graduating seniors is to take your education seriously and learn as much as you can! If learning is boring, then you aren’t putting enough effort into it! And remember, no one can ever take away your education….And travel!!!
